You can create unimaginable numbers of teams and customize your champions in many ways, including gear set and masteries and glyphs.

New players may feel overwhelmed by the many possibilities offered in RAID Shadow Legends.

This Free-to-Play Guide will help you become a better player.

Basic combat mechanics

RAID: Shadow Legends combat is turn-based. This means that you can choose the skill and target of each champion and then the enemy does the same.

All champions have at least one skill that is turn-cooldown-based. This means they can’t all be used every turn.

Cooldown skills are more powerful than regular ones and can buff allies, debuff enemy, increase crit chance, or have other powerful attributes.

New players are more likely to only use destructive skills in battle.

However, damage boosting buffs can often lead to a higher final damage output.

You will need to have healing and defensive skills in order to survive later on in the game.

You can’t sustain an enemy if you bring only damaging skills.

The auto-battle function is extremely useful when you first start playing RAID Shadow Legends.

Even if you don’t have the time or patience to play, you can beat stages quickly and move on.

You should play on manual once you have reached the later stages. Your skills will affect the stage’s outcome.

In-battle indicators are another feature that you should use when fighting.

These small symbols are placed above enemies’ heads and indicate whether the skill you choose does more, less or normal damage.

A green sign means more, yellow indicates normal, and red means less.

Improve your champions’ power

There are many ways to increase the stats and power your champions in RAID Shadow Legends. You should make use of them all.

These are the best ways to upgrade champions.

  • Level up
  • Ascend
  • Upgrade rank
  • Upgrade skills
  • Enhance and upgrade artifacts
  • Unlock masteries

You can only level up champions without spending any in-game resources. However, even with this method, it is possible to level up champions much faster by spending XP, silver, or sacrificing other champions.

You can also increase the power of champions by collecting in-game currency.

It is easier to find resources for upgrading champions than others.

The easiest items to find are mastery tomes to unlock masteries, potions to ascend, common champions to level up, and silver to enhance artifacts.

These four resources can be used to increase the power of champions quickly.

Information about the resources required to upgrade champions can be found in our guide to upgrading and ranking up champions in RAID Shadow Legends.

We have also created a guide on for how to obtain all resources in the game to help you get your desired resources.

While we strongly recommend that you upgrade your champions during play, there are resources you can spend wisely. This is what we will be covering in the next section.

Don’t spend resources recklessly

When they win champions, many players feel the need to spend their money on them, especially if they’re stuck on a stage.

This might not be the best idea depending on the resource and champion.

Some resources are very rare and therefore more valuable than others.

It’s a good idea to think through how you will invest your resources. But, the following are some things you should be extra cautious about spending.

  • Epic skill tomes
  • Legendary skill tomes
  • 4-star chicken
  • 5-star chicken

You need skill tomes in order to upgrade the skills of a champion.

Legendary skill tomes are required to improve the skills of champions that are rare or legendary.

The same applies to champions of epic rarity. You’d need legendary or epic skill tomes.

The rare, more common skill tomes are available to champions.

You will be rewarded with epic skill tomes or epic champions during the progression and new player events.

Although it might seem tempting to spend epic skill tomes on epic champions, do your research first.

You should check out our guide to the top champions or our group building guide for examples of great teams.

These guides will help you understand the importance of legendary and epic champions.

There is no way to recoup your skill tomes once you have spent them.

RAID: Shadow Legends has another valuable resource, chickens. They can be sacrificed to raise a champion’s rank.

You won’t find 5-star or 4-star chicken very often, so you will want to make sure that you spend your money wisely.

While 3-star chickens can be valuable, 3-star champions are more common than 4- and 5-star champions.

The 3-star chicken is a substitute for ranking up 3-star champions. You can spend if you feel a champion is worth spending, even if they aren’t the best in the game.

Complete daily tasks

Even though it may not seem like much, completing small tasks daily will result in a lot of progress, resources, and valuable items.

This is evident in daily quests. Most daily quests are very easy and take no time.

An example of a daily quest would be to’make 4 artifact upgrades’, use 50 energy’, or ‘beat the campaign boss 3 times’.

Daily quests offer little in the way of rewards.

To claim your reward, you will need to complete 30 daily tasks in order to fulfill one of the monthly quests.

After completing the quest, and all the monthly quests, you will be awarded a Sacred Shard. This is the highest shard in the game.

Daily quests can have a significant impact on your team’s power and will guarantee you an epic or legendary champion.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to complete all 30 daily quests in the same month to complete the monthly challenge.

It doesn’t matter how long you take to get there, but if you do it quickly, you will be able to make more progress.

After you have completed all five monthly quests they will reset and you can get another valuable resource.

It is important to spend daily resources for refreshment, such as arena entrances, Clan Boss keys and energy.

You should also check which dungeons are currently available.

You can only get potions for a limited time in dungeons. If you are looking to ascend a spirit champion or need potions for other purposes, then you should farm the Spirit Keep.

Collect stars in campaign and faction

After clearing a stage, players receive a rating of 1 to 3 stars in the campaign or faction wars.

You can get as many stars on a stage as you like if you only get one star.

Both faction and campaign wars offer their own rewards system, based on the accumulation of stars in stages.

There are many milestones that you can achieve, each of which will give you some reward.

These can be viewed in the Rewards Bar at the bottom of your screen while browsing the campaign or under the Info Tab in Faction Wars.

Many players aren’t focused on collecting stars as they play the game.

You can make the game more fun by aiming to score two or three stars at each stage.

Many rewards let you upgrade the power of your champions or summon new ones. This will help improve your team’s performance.

Campaign and faction wars require different requirements to get one, two, or three stars from a platform.

This is how the campaign determines the number of stars that you receive.

Clear the stage

  • Two stars = Clear the stage, without losing a champion
  • Three stars = Get to the top with at least two champions in under 10 minutes.
  • Most players won’t have many champions from the same faction at once, so faction wars determine how many stars are needed.

Clear the stage

  • Two stars = Get at least 3 champions on the stage without losing a champion
  • Three stars = Get to the top with 5 champions, without losing a champion

Unlock the Sparring Pit

The Sparring Pit is a useful building that allows passively leveling up champions without the need to do anything other than press level up.

Once you unlock it, any champion can be put in and passively gains XP.

It’s possible to even predict how long it will take for it to level off next.

To begin, there is only one slot in the Sparring Pit. However, you can unlock more slots with gems.

You can also upgrade specific slots with gems to get more XP per an hour.

You should be aware that a Sparring Pit champion cannot bring it to the battle.

You can remove the item from the Sparring Pit if you want to.

You might not want to be without your champions on certain days.

You can’t put them in the Sparring Pit during a day. However, make sure you put them in before going to bed, or you will wake up with champions who have received tons of XP.

When your account reaches Level 15, you unlock the Sparring Pit Building.

You can gain more XP by progressing through the game, clearing dungeons, etc. and doing quests.

The Sparring Pit is an useful building. We recommend that you spend your gems on it before you unlock new slots in the pit.

Summon new champions

The main aspect of RAID Shadow Legends is obtaining new champions. Many players consider this to be one of their favorite aspects.

It’s thrilling to be able to get new champions, but you also have the opportunity to put together a team afterwards.

It is fun to acquire new champions. However, it can also be very beneficial because it often increases your team’s power directly through swapping in the champion or sacrificing it for another.

If you want to make the game more enjoyable, you need to focus on acquiring new champions.

You can summon new champions by spending shards at the Portal to get them.

There are four types: Ancient Shard Mystery Shard, Ancient Shard Void Shard and Sacred Shard.
